The Beginning
Dam was born to a Bengali family in Kolkata, West Bengal. She had always been a dedicated and hardworking individual. This is apparent through her academic accolades. She won many scholarships in her school days and, later, finished her post-graduation in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta.
According to a dance institute in Kolkata, she was well-versed in classical dance and also had inclinations towards theatre but back then, she did not consider acting as her career. However, her destiny brought her into the realm of acting.
Dam made her debut with “Jibon Niye Khela”, a Bengali serial directed by Jishu Dasgupta, says a modelling institute in Kolkata. The show’s success can be well determined by the fact that it ran on air for a period of six years. She then made her debut in a Bengali movie called “Teen Yaari Katha”, but it was not released until 2012. Her first film release was “Agnipariksha”. Between the years 2006-2009, she starred in five Bengali films.
She got international recognition for her role in Chatrak, a Bengali movie. It had a screening at Cannes Film Festival and also at different film festivals in the U.K. and Toronto.
Bollywood debut
In Bollywood, she made her bold debut with “Hate Story”. It was directed by the reputed director, Vikram Bhatt. In the movie, Dam played the role of a sex worker. The film had a huge commercial success.
After her first movie in Bollywood, she acted in “Ankur Arora Murder Case. During an interview, she described her role in the movie as “deglamorized” and said that she enjoyed playing the character. After the movie had a special screening in Mumbai, Indian journalist and film critic Taran Adarsh commented that she must act more in Bollywood.
